The project will expand the WISALA program in Egypt to economically and socially empower 4,200 widows and 12,600 of their children through community-run microbanks owned and operated by the widows themselves. Through this program, widows receive vocational and financial literacy training to launch their own microenterprises, with the WISALAs becoming self-sustaining entities that provide critical financing for widows in the village, enabling participants to grow their WISALA capital by 10x in 3-5 years.
